A kiss...

“How did it happen that their lips came together? How does it happen that birds sing, that snow melts, that the rose unfolds, that the dawn whitens behind the stark shapes of trees on the quivering summit of the hill? A kiss, and all was said.”

The POWER of NETTLES

Nettles sting and they're invasive. Them make you itchy for hours. Who could possibly like them?

Me! Actually I love them, after they solved ant and bug problems in my green house.

What's in a nettle plant:
The dried leaf of nettle contains 40% protein. They are one of the highest known sources of protein in a leafy green, and of superior quality than many other green leafy vegetables, The fresh leaves contain vitamins A, C, D, E, F, K, P, and b-complexes as well as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and vitamin B-6, all of which were found in high levels, and act as antioxidants. The leaves are also noted for their particularly high content of the metals selenium, zinc, iron, and magnesium. They contain boron, sodium, iodine, chromium, copper, and sulfur. They also contain tannic and gallic acids, gum, and wax. Sixteen free amino acids have been found in the leaves, as well as high silicon levels in the leaves, stems and roots. Amino acids in dehydrated nettle meal are nutritionally superior to those of alfalfa meal. - http://www.herballegacy.com/Vance_Chemical.html
As you see, nettles are very healthy for humans, and they are heavily used as food and tea in kitchens. But they healthy are to the plants as well. The richness of nutritions help plants grow better and stronger. There are many ways to use nettles in our yard and kitchen. Some of them:

Never underestimate The POWER of NETTLES!

Get rid of ants in green house

After setting everything in the green house (Dripping system, water tank, boxes, soil, planting seeds, getting plants from shops etc.... ) it was perfect place for ants and bugs. Warm and good soil with food :)
In the beginning I didn't do anything to prevent bugs to come to the green house care because it is a natural thing to have bugs in your garden. After 3-4 weeks, I realized that ants made a HUGE nest there and getting prepared for the winter, taking my seeds and start to destroy my plan(t)s. I wanted to get rid of them, but I can't use any poison or similar stuff just on the side of my tomatoes, and there is no solution in shops for green house bugs.

Then I decided to move the nest outside. Did some small digging and moved all the eggs out somewhere nature. All of the ants were running all around the green house, getting on me as well. Then I thought that I have to do sth. I knew about the nettle spray aphids, and how to make it. A part from aphids I also knew that other bugs also don't like the smell.
So I picked some nettles from the yard and I didn't have 2-3 weeks of time to do this. So I started to think what can take the smell out from nettles in short time: Alcohol! I grabbed a bottle of Sake and a small plate. Put the nettles in the plate and some Sake on it and mashed with a glass bottle. These were the most stupid tools but they do the job :) In 5 mins, you get the strong smell and the brownish color of nettles. So I put the juice into a spray and as they say 1 to 5 ratio of water on it and sprayed it to everywhere in the green house especially where the ants were. It's not done yet! I buried the mashed nettles to the ant nest where I have dug already. And covered it with some ash (ants don't like it either) . And tataaaaaam! Not a single ant after 1 hour!
... then I walked home with happiness of finishing the job of the day just like the Lucky Luke :D

Quote of the day

Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

                         -Leonardo da Vinci

Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free.
                        - Joseph Brackett, Simple Gifts (1848)

When true simplicity is gain'd
To bow and to bend we shan't be asham'd,
To turn, turn will be our delight
'Till by turning, turning we come round right.

                       - Joseph Brackett, Simple Gifts (1848)

Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.
                       - Coco Chanel, interview in Harper's Bazaar (1923).

Nothing is more simple than greatness; indeed, to be simple is to be great.
                        - Ralph Waldo Emerson, Literary Ethics (1838).
